My Least Favourite Part of Being an Artist

Behind the scenes of being an artist... the bit no one talks about! 😂
My least favourite part of the job FOR SURE is washing up painty brushes, pallet knives, and mucky water pots at the end of the day.
But do you know what? Creativity is messy. Swooshes, splashes, drips... that's when the magic happens for me. The tidy-up? Not so magical.
Still, there is something satisfying about lining up clean brushes and making the sink shine ... until tomorrow's chaos begins again.
My studio is on loan to me from a fantastic organisation called Outer Spaces Scotland, and as a result I’m very careful about Not Making A Mess of their carpets and walls/windows with all my splashing and dripping of paint.
I’ve covered so much of the floor with carefully taped down tarpaulin that one visitor to my studio recently commented that it looked like the set of Dexter…!
I suppose I’d rather be tidying up paint than anything else more gory, but it does make me wonder if it’s something I could out-source. A freelance brush-cleaner…anyone???
